Candle

HERE TO HELP

A little support.

Getting started

Open Candle and click the flame in your Mac’s menu bar. Turn on Stay awake and choose a duration. Open Settings to choose Screen & Mac or Mac Only. Use Stop keeping awake to end a session.

Where’s the window?

Candle lives in the menu bar and doesn’t show a Dock icon. Click the flame to open its controls. If your menu bar is crowded, make room for the flame by closing an unused menu-bar app.

Why did my Mac go to sleep?

Candle prevents idle sleep. It doesn’t prevent you from choosing Sleep, closing your laptop’s lid, or macOS sleeping when the battery is critically low. A system sleep event ends the current session. The optional battery safeguard also ends sessions at 15% or less while unplugged.

Why did my display turn off?

Choose Screen & Mac to prevent idle display sleep. Mac Only allows your screen to follow its usual sleep behavior. Candle doesn’t change your screen-lock or screensaver settings.

How do daily points work?

Enable optional keyboard activity tracking in Settings. One active minute earns one point. Tracking pauses after 60 seconds without keyboard activity. It measures activity time, not individual keystrokes or what you type. Totals remain on your Mac.

Change your daily goal in Settings and press Return or click away to save. Select “Exclude weekends from goals and averages” if you prefer a weekday goal. Weekend activity is still recorded.

Can Candle launch automatically?

Enable Launch at Login in Settings. If macOS requests approval, approve it in System Settings. Stay awake on launch is a separate option for starting a session automatically.

How do I quit?

Click the flame and choose Quit Candle. This releases Candle’s sleep controls. Other apps may independently keep your Mac awake.
